My friend Jenn went to the Holy Lands not too long ago. I asked her what affected her the most. She told me about a conversation she had with her guide. She asked him what he thought Jesus’ main purpose was other than to die for the sins of the world. His answer came swiftly, “To get the human race to relax and trust God with EVERYTHING!”

Matthew 6:30-33 MSG - “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

I’m sure like me, you wish you weren’t so easily sucked into the busy-ness and difficulties’ of life, but it seems to be human nature. I’m amazed at how immediate my response is when things go hay wire...I become stressed out. Why can’t we just relax, trust God, and have a party regardless of what’s going on? Why can’t we get this straight?

Is it possible we’re all a little freakish in thinking we can control, fix, and change everything and everyone around us? I think so. But if you’ve lived more than half a minute on planet earth, you quickly realize it’s simply not true. God is God and we are not. And if we’re really bright, we recognize worrying doesn’t do any good either.

The relaxation solution?

God says:

Peace I leave you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Cast your cares on me for I care for you. (1Pt. 5:7)

Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matt. 11:28)

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell me what you need, and thank me for all I’ve done. Then you will experience my peace, which exceeds anything you can understand. My peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6–7)

And you know that all things work together for good to them that love me, to them who are called according to my purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Stand back and see the salvation of the Lord. (Ex. 14:13)

Do not be afraid or dismayed… For the battle is not yours, it is mine. (2 Chron. 20:15)

I heard a song on the radio recently that included a verse that went something like this, “Why do I keep trying to fight a battle that is not mine to fight, and has already been won?”

Good question...

When you can take a deep breath in and let it out! Trusting that God, who created you, knows every detail about you, knows exactly what you need, when you need it... is willing, excited, and responsible to get it to you!

RELAX!
